Parenting Styles Gender dysphoria can be defined as a psychiatric classification describing persons experiencing a strong and persistent incongruity between their anatomy (their sex) and the gender with which they identify. (Mathiesen, 2019) Typically either a psychiatrist or a psychologist diagnoses gender dysphoria. There is no exact cause of gender dysphoria, however, many have different opinions on the classification. Some believe that the cause of gender dysphoria either stems from a group of factors that play on each other. Those factors include the individuals background, genetics, biological, sociocultural as well their psychological. (Mathiesen, 2019) A person who has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria usually feels as if they are trapped in the body of the wrong sex. To specify, a boy would feel as if he should be in a girls body. There are many other symptoms as well that those with gender dysphoria experiences. There is typically cross dressing as well as the sickening of their own genitals. There may also be behavioral problems especially if the individual is not being accepted as who they believe they are. Gender dysphoria is something that is known and exists in every culture.
