2 Problem Identification Problem Identification: Prevalence Poverty can be defined as having the inability to afford important necessities. Necessities such as food, clothes and shelter. (Finley, 2018) It is no secret that not only individuals but many families as well has been in poverty for years. What is the cause of poverty? Do these individuals bring poverty amongst themselves or is it the cause of poverty is due to the lack of knowledge? Is it due to the lack of resources needed to gain the knowledge needed? Poverty doesn’t just affect adults. This condition affects children as well that are in the care of these adults. Children has been affected by poverty reverting all the way back to the 21 st century. Since the 21 st century over half of the children in different countries were living in non-livable situations. Weinclaw (2019) states that “over 1/3 of the children in these countries were living in conditions of absolute poverty in which basic human needs are not being met, including the need for adequate food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education, information, and access to social services.” Poverty is a very damaging to children that are affected by it from birth on. These damages can include be psychological and physical cause stunted developmental issues. Children that have developmental and psychological issues due to poverty most likely will not be able to gain the necessary skills and knowledge needed to be able to live above poverty level. Child poverty enables the child to be able to raise their socioeconomic status, which include their education and social skills. Being unable to get the proper education due to parents being unable to afford the proper school supplies and clothing or even being unable to send their child to school, will in turn, cause the child to be unable to gain the proper education needed in order to gain a good paying job or gain access to better opportunities to get them out of poverty.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
