Approximately two years later, in 1939Harrah opened a bingo parlor. Gambling had been legalized 11 years prior to theopening of Harrah casino (in 1942), which was equipped with blackjack, and dice table,and 20 slot machines. The companyknown as Harrah’sexpanded in 1946, and addedroulette to the card and dice tables and also began serving liquor.Harrah’swasdefinitely a game changer, and an individual who was not afraid to go against the odds.Harrah purchased a casino on the southern shore of Lake Tahoe in 1955, and just fouryears later, repositioned the casino across the highway. This became the world’s largeststructure devoted solely to gambling; thus, attracting star entertainers with its 10-acreparking lot and 850-seat theater-restaurant.
