2 Treatment vs. Intervention Psychology Concepts Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder also known as ADHD, can be defined as a condition characterized by an inability to focus attention or to inhibit impulsive, hyperactive behavior; it is a associated with behavior that results in poor performance in educational, social, or work settings. (Block, Macdonald, Piotrowski, 2019) When a child has become diagnosed with ADHD, it is very imperative that the parent or guardian of the child understands the disorder and make sure they know all of their options to treating the child. Parent’s first concern when it comes down their child being diagnosed with ADHD should be what can be done to better help their child. Children who have been diagnosed with ADHD have a lot of problems that can be deemed challenging. When it comes down to treatment, the professional that is treating the child always ask the opinion of the parent/s as to which form of treatment they find more suitable for their child. 9 times out of 10 the professionals that will be treating the child knows the right of way when it’s time to treat the diagnosis. However, those parents that have cultural and other influences may not agree with the proposed plan of treatment due to their beliefs.
