History February 7, 2007 Robert Abet- selfless entrepenour The great northern drive , where they attempted to get black southerners out of the south and into the north. Chicago has a complex black community, where Robert Abet is at the top of that county. Black southerners get to the north and find this hidden sort of racism whereas in the south, it is greatly seen. Defacto segregation - where racism is seen throughout the community such as blacks living in certain areas and other examples. Jobs can be seen as black work or white work. Black jobs: cleaning, low payment and low educational jobs. *****Northern black community making less money but paying more rent. Rent in south Chicago is sky rocketing because all these black people are washing in to Chicago. 1890s, millions come from europe Before this period, obviously Europeans coming into America and eastern Europe come in by 1880’s. Why? Religious wars, wars of empire, and other conflicts occurring in Europe. (millions of Italians, million Hungarians, Russians) When the Europeans get here, the first immigration citizens The difference is the second generation hugarian, Russian, etc. Learn English, learn cultural values, learn the Americans culture. Third generation does better than that. The
