Ch. 9-2 Genetic Crosses The genotype: is the genetic makeup of an organism, consisting of the alleles that the organism inherits from its parents ( GG, gg, Gg) The phenotype : is the appearance of an organism as a result of its genotype Homozygous organism : (pure) the 2 alleles in a pair for a characteristic are alike GG , gg Heterozygous organism : (hybrid) the 2 alleles in a pair for a characteristic are different Gg Probability : is the chance for a particular outcome to occur It can be represented by a fraction, a percentage or a decimal Probability equation : number of times an event is expected to happen / total number of events Ex. In Mendel’s experiment; the dominant trait of yellow seed color appeared in F2 generation 6000 times and the recessive trait of green seed color appeared 2000 times , the total number of individuals was 8000. The probability that the dominant trait will appear in a similar cross is 6000/8000= ¾ or 75% or 0.75 And that for a recessive trait is 2000/8000= 1/4 or 25% or 0.25 Predicting results of monohybrid crosses Monohybrid cross : is a cross that involves one pair of contrasting traits Punnett square: is a diagram that aids in predicting probability Ex. 1 Ex. 3

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
