Have you ever wondered why it was so significant to theatre today? Theatreduring the Renaissance Period was significant because of the history, theater design, and cast andcostuming.Art, architective, and science were closely related during the Renaissance (History.com, 2019). English Renaissance theatre, commonly known as early modern English theatre, attributesto the theatre of England between 1562 and 1642; this is also the design and style of plays William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, and Ben Jonson (Courses.lumenlearning.com, 2019). Renaissance literature was characterized by humanist themes and classical ideals of tragedy and comedy. Shakespeare’s works, like “Hamlet”, are a good example of this (Szalay, 2019). In the beginning of the Renaissance, there were two types of theatrical productions; One type was presented by the humanist Julius Laetus at the Accademia Romana, a semisecret societyhe founded in the mid fifteenth century for the purpose of reviving classical ideals (EncyclopediaBritannica, 2019). Theatre back in this time was not very accepted, however. Once the resistance of theatre started, drama could become a permanent rather than transitory prodigy (Courses.lumenlearning.com, 2019). As early as 1574, before the first theater was built, the Lord Mayor of London and the common council laid heavy restrictions on all details of theatrical productions (The British Library, 2019).
