Energy Assignment (30 pts.)
Module 1, Unit 1.1 - Energy Assignment - 30 points
1. Why is energy not as tangible (concrete, certain, definite, plainly
knowledgeable) to us as matter?
Energy is an ability. It comes from different forms that can be converted from on form to
another, whereas matter has a mass and takes up space.
2. List four forms of energy and an example for each form. To get the eight
marks for this question, you need to list four forms of energy and four
examples (one example for each form of energy).
Four forms of energy are:
Mechanical Energy: an example would be an electric motor
Chemical Energy: an example would be fire.
Electric Energy: an example would be fuel cells.
Nuclear Energy: an example would be a nuclear reactor.
3. What is the First Law of Thermodynamics?
The first Law of Thermodynamics states that energy cannot be destroyed. It can only be
converted to other forms. Heat is a form of energy.
4. What is the Second Law of Thermodynamics?
