EFFECTS OF DISCRIMINATION, HALO EFFECT AND PREJUDICE2Effects of Discrimination, Halo Effect and PrejudiceOn Personal and Organizational Attitudes, Perceptions and BehaviorsPetty & Cacioppo (1981) define attitudes as individuals’ general affective, cognitive andintentional response toward objects, other people, themselves, or social issues. Simply put, it isthe tendency to respond in a particular way due to experience and temperament. According toRobbins & Judge (2013), perception is a process by which individuals receive, organize andinterpret their sensory impressions (information) in order to give meaning to their environment. However, what we perceive can be substantially different from objective reality. Hemakumara,Gpts; Rainis, Ruslan (2018) also defined Behavior as the range of actions and mannerisms madeby individuals, organisms, systems, or artificial entities in conjunction with themselves or theirenvironment. Attitudes, values and behaviour exhibit significantly influence in organizationaland personal concepts. These influences can either be negative or positive. However, fullyunderstanding the impacts of these concepts may be an oversight by these psychologicalconcepts: Discrimination, Halo Effect and Prejudice. This paper would explain howpsychological concepts positively or negatively affect attitudes, perceptions and behaviours in anorganizational or individual context.
