schooling program changes the amount or way you involve yourself with school. As a Academic student with many IB friends, this topic always made me curious, on which one of us was more active in school or just had more time to be active in school. Another fact is, depending on who you ask at V.P they will all give you a different answer. IB students would say Academic students are more active in school because of all the time they have, and Academic students would say the complete opposite, stating that IB students are natural overachievers. Therefore, we ask the question- Who is more active in school? Hypothesis Noura- I think IB students are more involved in school activities, including clubs, sports teams and councils because they are more academically driven and the IB program pushes the students to do because it will help them in the future. Elini- I think that both IB and Academic students are equally active in school because both groups of students have reasons to be so. Both IB and Academic students need to join extracurriculars to get into and be noticed by good post-secondary schools. Style of Research Method We chose to do a selected sample survey because we are focusing on a specific group of people and thought this was the best way to quickly find information. Most of our questions were based by thinking about what active or inactive person in school act like.
Our survey questions were mostly multiple choice, with one open-ended and semantic differential question. Our interview questions were all open-ended questions and we chose to do a semi-structured interview because we only had a limited amount of time but we also wanted as much information as possible. Our group had very clear ideas on how a person that is very involved with school would carry on with their day, but we still felt that we would miss a lot of information without asking questions out of the ones we created. Such as, how stressed were they about school, and for what reasons. Some of our participants would say because of homework or something academic related, but others would mention how sometimes it is hard to balance between extracurricular activities and academics. Sample Group We choose to focus on Grade 11 IB and Academic students because we wanted to see the difference between two groups that are in the same grade but are in different programs, and how that affects the way they integrate themselves into the school environment. Another reason is because grade 11 is a tipping point for many of the students, where they go from having fun and experimenting being in different clubs and groups to being way more focused on grades and getting into good Post-secondary schools. This causes students to be way more invested in school than the last two years of their high school career. We wanted to see how each group of students would handle this pressure and deal with the situation.
