Sex-Trafficking: Modern Day Slavery
On May 21 2017, Chicago policemen arrested twenty-one people who were involved in a
multi-million dollar sex-trafficking ring that had lasted for eight years. Members of the people
from the organization had forced young women from Thailand to work as prostitutes, but not
before promising them a fresh start for themselves and their families in the United States.
Throughout the country, the recruiters either worked as money launderers, facilitators, or
served as “house bosses”, who used various facilities such as hotels or houses for prostitution.

The unknowing women were basically treated as slaves under the organization’s control, even
going so far as to change their appearance through plastic surgery to make them more
attractive for customers. The sheriff overseeing the investigation believed that until our society
firmly decides it is wrong, the sex-trafficking business will not be eradicated.
