PHY 210_CHAPTER 1 ROSYAINI_UiTM PERLIS At the end of chapter, you should be able to; 2 1. Define and apply the concepts of frequency , period angular , speed , and angular acceleration 2. Write and apply the relationship between linear speed and angular speed . 3. Demonstrate by definition and example your understanding of the concepts of centripetal force and centripetal acceleration . ,
PHY 210_CHAPTER 1 ROSYAINI_UiTM PERLIS INTRODUCTION Uniform circular motion is the motion in which there is no change in speed, only a change in direction. There are many cases of objects moving in a curve or circular path about some point, such as bicycles or cars turning round corners. 3 example: 1.a uniform circular motion is afforded by swinging a rock in a circular path with a string. 2.the rock revolves with constant speed, the inward force of the tension in the string constantly changes the direction of the rock, causing it to move in a circular path. 3. if the string should break, the rock will fly off at a tangent perpendicular to the radius of its circular path.

PHY 210_CHAPTER 1 ROSYAINI_UiTM PERLIS 5 a) Angular Displacement, A particle P moves in a circle. At a particular constant, it has an angular position of from its starting point. This is known as the angular displacement , . s v Angular position, ree or revolution rad of unit rad r r s complete to r s o o o deg , , : 2 r 2 360 r 2 s , 360 , 360 o o 57.3 rad 1 rad 2 360 rev 1 : circle complete For r s length, Arc 1. Rotational Kinematics (Angular Quantities) The definition: = the angle through which a rigid body/object rotates about a fixed axis.
PHY 210_CHAPTER 1 ROSYAINI_UiTM PERLIS 6 b) Angular Velocity , The definition of , = the rate of the change of angular displacement Vector r 1 2 1 2 t t t ) min (rev minutes per revolution ), s (rad second per radian : Unit 1 - 1 - t r v r s where t t s r if the angular velocity is constant, will be a constant value, so; Relation between linear velocity and angular velocity
PHY 210_CHAPTER 1 ROSYAINI_UiTM PERLIS 7 c) Angular Acceleration, The definition of , = a rate of change of angular velocity of a revolving particle .
