To:From:Section #:Date:Re:Lab 3: Fluid Power Pumps and Introduction to Hydraulic CircuitsPurpose:The purpose of this lab is to understand how various pumps work and the equations behind thepumps.Procedure:The procedure for this lab was to first measure different components of the pumps. Once thevalues were measured we used them to calculate the pump’s G.P.M and C.I.R displacement. Results:The results of the labs are enclosed in the attached lab handoutsConclusions/Recommendations:In conclusion it is important to understand how different pumps work and their differences tobe able to better select the correct pump for the required job.Real World Applications:Pumps are used every day in the real world to power pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Forexample, CEMEX (a cement company) uses pumps to force the cement through pipes into thesilos.
Gear Pumps and Motors1.Measure gear width,W = 1.274”2.Measure bore diameter of one of the gear chambers: this isD = 2.115”3.Measure distance across both gear chambers; this isL = 3.966”G .P.M @1800RPM=47W(2DL)LD2G .P.M=471.274(22.1153.966)3.966
