Kate Daye Section 3 Entry I January 25, 2007 One of the modern day technologies or inventions that touches me the deepest is medicines and drugs that have been put into circulation to help to deal with and control many mental illnesses. I have seen many friends and family members deal with mental illnesses such as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and especially depression. The medical technologies that have helped us to discover these disorders and to find treatments for them have made this world a much better place. With the stressful ailments of our modern society and the already affected genes that are being passed down through generations, these medicines have helped millions and millions of people to live a much healthier life. I have a lot of experience with prescription medication for neurological psychiatric disorders because for most of my life I have personally struggled with having Bipolar Disorder I. Without this medication so many things in my life would be different. My relationships with my friends, family and almost everyone I come in contact with would be severely altered, being that I would either be in a depressed state, or a manic state, both of which are very destructive. Without regulated medication, I have severe panic attacks, days of an unhealthy invincible feeling, and weeks of despair. Obviously, I am very grateful for this technology. Drugs that help people to fight these mental ailments help incredibly in the field of communication. With the aid of medications, people can more easily display feelings and have connections. With depression, one is likely to shut others out. With ADD or OCD, one has
