Probably because they do not have enough word, children tenf to generalize  word meaning based on Complexive concepts An original word meaning is extended to other thigs, in different directions or  in succession, till there is o apparent common property among them. Example: doggie (extensions in different directions) o Dog  furry items (e.g., slippers)  moving things (e.g., birds, toy cards) Cmplexive concepts are founf in adult lexicon, too
