C304 Task 1A.Identify a nursing theory that has influenced your values and goals. The nursing theory that has most influenced my practice as a nurse in Florence Nightingale’s theory on the environment of healing. The concept of this theory is that one’s environment has an impact on their health and recovery. The framework of this theory was that the nurse manipulates the client’s environment to include appropriate noise, nutrition, hygiene, light, comfort, socialization and hope. (Patricia Ann Potter, Anne Griffin Perry, Hall, & Stockert, 2009, p.49)1.Explain how nurses apply the identified theory from part A to implement excellent nursing practices. As nurses we are in control of the environment in which our patients heal. We are the managers of their healing and have the ability to alter their environment based on their individual wants and needs. 2.Discuss how the identified theory from part A fits your professional practice. As an Oncology nurse many of my patients are in the hospital for very lengthy times. Sometimes weeks or months. I encourage my patients to bring in things from homesuch as family photos, their own pillow and home cooked meals. The hospital I work for also has a specialized menu for oncology patients. They are able to call to the kitchen andhave any meal they wish made. There is also a special snack menu available to them. Oneof my best moments as a nurse was being able to provide my dying patient with one of his last wishes because of this policy. He was able to sit and have a beer with his sons 10 hours before he passed away.2
