NRS-490 Journal 2/4/18 Week 1 This is the first week of class and I have completed 2 clinical hours and 2 discussion questions. This week I primarily learning about different research databases so that I am able to better understand patient care technology and information systems as be able to demonstrate a professional standard of practice. Each database has specific search features that help to focus on our area of study or can be a resource to study other areas. (GCU Library Skills 2017) I also attend 2 JOC meeting in which we strategized to improve patient care. There is a lot of cultural diversity when attending large meetings and one main things that I learned is that everyone interprets things differently. Assessing organizational culture has been identified as a necessary first step in to overcoming common barriers. (Linde 2016) Week 2 This week I have completed 10 clinical hours and 2 discussion questions. I had the opportunity to attend another JOC meeting with my mentor. I have learned that during these meeting we are able to collaborate with a team of professionals from all disciplines and develop policies that affect the way health care is practiced and nursing is taking place. We had intraprofessional collaboration where we identified problems that providers are having with patient and offered solutions such as mammogram buses or health fair buses for patient that are not able to go to the traditional provider office. We deal with the Medicare population so it is important that these meeting take place because since July 2012, Medicare requires evidence-based orders sets for hospitals participating in Medicare who employ order sets. The requirement was introduced

without much fanfare or controversy, but it added a significant regulatory burden to healthcare providers that utilize order sets. Medicare favors evidence-based order sets because timely maintenance of evidence-based order sets helps hospitals improve outcomes and provide higher quality of care. ( Loekh 2017) Week 3 This week I completed 20 clinical hours, 2 discussion questions, attended the strategy meeting, leadership conference and leadership meeting with my meeting and researched and completed my paper PICOT paper. We learned about the difference and similarities between meta-analyses and systemic reviews. I learned that “These two methods can help in the determination of the relevance and validity of the evidence. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses have become increasingly important in healthcare setting”. Gopalakrishnan, S., & Ganeshkumar, P. (2013). Week 4 This week I completed 10 clinical hours, 2 discussion questions, attend weekly provider meeting and JOC meeting with my mentor. We professionally strategize with all disciplines on the best way to provide better patient care and work through population health concerns. Such as patients not having transportation to provider visits or not being able to afford medication. Every week
