EMPLOYMENT ISSUES1Employment Issues-Hiring and FiringUniversity of Maryland University CollegeTeam 6 Group ProjectEmployment Issues at New Brand Designs, Inc.
EMPLOYMENT ISSUES2New Brand Design, Inc. (NBD) is a subsidiary of Colossal Corporation in Serafini, a smallcountry in Eastern Europe (UMUC, 2019). This subsidiary is incorporated in the state of Delaware as a company that designs, brands, and manufactures innovative electronic products and markets and distributes them for resale across the globe. Recently it was discovered that two of the local nationals of Serafini, Elena and Viktor were being paid salaries than are significantly lower than several other members of the executive board. They also discovered that their benefitspackages were also not as inclusive as the other members. Both Elena and Viktor have since filed formal complaints for discrimination and unfair business practices with the human resource director, Max Ciccone. NBD’s executive board is composed of six expatriates from the United States, one expatriate from Italy, and three local Serafini nationals (UMUC, 2019). These 10 board members manage over 100 employees who are all nationals of Serafini (UMUC, 2019). US operations has attempted to fix the problem by sending out two more expatriates from the United States on five-year contracts to replace Elena and Viktor. Max Ciccone has been dealing with issues involving NBD for several months and these findings could result in a major issue with the local government. Ethical PerspectiveTerminating Elena and Viktor is a sure sign of unethical practices for NBD. Utilitarianism is a prominent perspective on ethics that says an action is right only if it will deliver the greatest good to society (UMUC, 2019). The emphasis is on finding the best possible results and that the assumption is that we can measure the utilities involved. The termination of Elena and Viktor could come off as a solution that only works for the company. Three of the ten executive board members are from the country of Serafini and the other six are Americans. Terminating two locals on leaves one Serafinian left on the board.
EMPLOYMENT ISSUES3In contrast to the utilitarian perspective, the deontological view states that having a moral intent and following the right rules is a better path to ethical conduct than achieving the right results (UMUC, 2019).
