2 POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND THE CONTENT OF THEIR POSTS ON… Introduction Social media has become a huge platform for law enforcement to utilize as a means of provid ing e information of criminal activity and criminal law to the general public , ranging from notifications about sought-after crime suspects to public media campaigns promoting positive relationships with the communities they serve. . Social media can also serve s as a means of method of communication to between government agencies, especially including policing authorities law enforcement agencies . As noted by Herevin and Zach …. Traditionally, government agencies have utilized a one-way communication model: sending information to the public either directly through news media and not receiving communications back from the public via this channel. Social media tools are changing the communication model between government agencies and the public as well as with news media” (Heverin & Zach, 1). Recently, there has been a A 75% rise in communications between the general public and law enforcement . Further, law enforcement agencies have increased their representation on social media outlets and now have a presence on at least , one of the three major social network sites , including (Lieberman, Koetzle, and Sakiyama, 2013) like Facebook, twitter, and Instagram (Lieberman, Koetzle , and Sakiyama , 2013) . The movement of law enforcement agencies to wards social media outlets has shown promise as a beneficial tool for interacting with the public . For example, b B eing in tune in touch with to the general public through social media helps law enforcement interact with in the communit ies y that they serve. Making sure that stories are as accurate as possible enables law enforcement entities to connect with other agencies, older populations, residents, and the youth of today. Using social media, law enforcement can send out accurate information, control the conversations of the news, and make sure that clarity is provided to the general public. When

Reach a diverse and wider range of audience, as well as meet the needs of the department at hand.
