1. Brief introduction
1.1 What is shopee?
According to Wikipedia, Shopee was founded in 2015 in Singapore, by the SEA
corporation of Forrest Li. The establishment of Shopee is a milestone of SEA's
encroachment into the e-commerce field. Formerly, they were known as the
distributor of a lot of famous games, called Garena.
Until now, Shopee is present in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia,
Vietnam, and the Philippines.
Different from Lazada or Tiki, Shopee initially developed primarily on mobile
applications, rather than computers. However, nowaday, their web platform also
has a huge traffic, by virtue of a large investment in brand development.
Initially, Shopee is only operated with the Marketplace model (C2C - Customer to
Customer). But now they also expand to B2C (Business to Customer), which is
similar to Lazada and Tiki. This is reflected by the establishment of Shopee Mall in
2017. Shopee Mall is the place where major brands and retailers sell genuine
goods at Shopee.
Visit Shopee, you can easily find cheap goods, even second-hand goods, sold by a
lot of different sellers. Therefore, the company decided to develop Shopee Mall, in

order to have a separate area for genuine goods to avoid the phenomenon that
consumers think there are only cheap and bad goods sold on Shopee.
1.2 Who owns Shopee?
- Shopee belongs to SEA. And SEA is owned by:
 Tencent - China's giant technology corporation, owns 39.7%
 Founder Forrest Li owns a 35% stake, directly and indirectly
 SEA Chief Technology Officer Gang Ye owns 10%
 Other small shareholders
- SEA is a Singaporean company, but the largest shareholder is a Chinese
company (Tencent). Mr. Forrest Li (a billionaire in the world with $ 1.3 billion in
assets), although is a Singapre citizen, he was born in Tianjin, China.
So we can conclude that Shopee is from both Singapore and China. This is not
surprising that they have a very strong financial potential. After acquiring the
Chinese domestic market, they are thriving throughout the whole of Southeast
Asia.

2. Key issues
1.1 Merchandise conduct
The internet and e-commerce also pose a big challenge to control the quality of
products sold on website. Many individuals and organizations take advantages of
e-commerce to trade in fake and counterfeit goods, even falsifying reputable
businesses to deceive buyers, causing economic damage and consumer
confidence for the business.
1.2 Trust of customers:

Although the payment platforms have grown quite securely but the business has
not been completely trusted by consumers. Doubt in both buyers and sellers leads
to many incomplete transactions. Online products and services can not be
touched, held or felt . Whereas, the shopper always want to directly watch, try it
and held on, they can only view through photos, videos and detailed descriptions
