Kingsolver’s novel follows Taylor Greer who has a small child thrust onto her, and is now finding sanctuary in Tucson, Arizona where she finds a crowd of women; Turtle, Lou Ann, Mattie, and Esperanza. “The Secret Life of Bees” on the other hand, tells of Lily Owens and her housekeeper Rosaleen who escape to South Carolina, which is believed to hold secrets of her dead mother’s past. They of course differ, with their plots and historical context, but besides that they are remarkably similar on their views of men, motherhood, and the world.Kingsolver’s piece focuses on women, and how they depend on and support each other; their love is based on their common bond of motherhood.
