2NURSE LEADERSHIP Overview of Nurse LeadershipNursing leaders in healthcare are important as they are responsible for making improvements pertaining to quality care and patient safety. Nurse leaders have the platform and education needed to create an environment that promotes effective communication and focuses on patient needs. Effective nursing leaders have the ability to encourage employees to support one another by working as a team to ensure optimal outcomes when treating patients. The role asa nursing leader has changed over time primarily because of technological advancements, such as Electronic Health records (EHR). In modern times, nurse leaders focus on incorporating key concepts that are taken from the quadruple aim. Prior to the development of the quadruple aim, nurse leaders focused on promoting ideas that came from the triple aim, an older and less detailed model. The purpose of the quadruple aim is to facilitate change by improving patient experiences, improving health of the population, improving employee work life and reducing healthcare costs (Bodenheimer, 2014) In order to be a successful nursing leader one must be ableto manage daily operations, motivate others to strive for excellence and reach organizational goals.
