Astronomy 10 Moons and Rings 9/29/06 Comets have always remained frozen o Can say that comets are frozen relics of the solar system o They are unchanged, only body unchanged in the solar system o Tells us what things where like when universe was forming o Comets can get close to other bodies and collide with other objects Have strong evidence that comets have collided with earth We have watched a comet collide into Jupiter The crash of the comet into Jupiter had so much energy that the crash could be seen from a telescope on earth Left marks on Jupiter, but the marks eventually disappeared Comet was already broken up before it crashed The scar that the biggest piece of the comet left a mark that was a big as the Earth o Got the attention of the media and congress Theory that most of the water on Earth was brought by colliding comets o When comets get very close to something, they break up Creator chains on the moon, etc. are evidence of possible comet break
