Chapter 5: Seagulls and their eggs (The normal distribution) Seagulls are among animals that have their babies by laying eggs. Seagulls gather in large groups and lay their eggs in separate nests made from surrounding plants . Sometimes seagulls only lay one egg in their nest but other times they can lay as many as 6. Most of the time gulls lay a few eggs. If the seagulls wanted to show who could lay the most eggs, the nests could be arranged into a row. The nests with the least amount of eggs on one side and the nests with the most amount of eggs on the other. Nests with the same amount of eggs would be placed together. This would lead to the greatest number of nests being in the middle of the row, and the least number of nests on the outer edge. This is called the normal distribution of seagull’s eggs.
