Lee 1 Catherine Lee Dr. Harder English 1B January 16, 2019 The Tragedy of Human Existence If the entire human species were to unexpectedly cease to exist, would this necessarily be a tragedy or a blessing in disguise? To answer this question, one must consider the perspective they are viewing this question from, what defines “tragic”, as well as how the term “unexpectedly” can change the nature of this entire question . It is nearly impossible to answer this question from an unbiased viewpoint and there is no clear cut answer, but looking from the perspective of all the other inhabitants on earth, the extinction of our species would not be considered a “tragedy”. For the sake of my argument, I am defining “tragedy” from the sole perspective of all species other than the human race. Although it is impossible for me to speak as an ambassador for these species, I believe that it is fair enough to say that the human race has brought a considerable effect to these animals: ranging from more harm than good. Our innate humanistic characteristics to be greedy and selfish has led us to exploit many other species and allowed us to abuse natural resources found on earth for human consumption and personal enjoyments. Just by taking a look at the meat industry, humans have been slaughtering millions of animals for the sake of food and “survival” as well as to just have other useful commodities. Humans perform activities such as these without much consideration of how it affects the world around us.We as humans cannot deny that we have destroyed ecosystems which are home to many animals, dried
