Psychology Learning Terms to know Provide a definition AND provide a real-life example for each of the following. - Extinction - Decrease of the strength of a conditioned response - Your dog rings bells on the door to alert you to let him outside to do his business. However recently, he has been having accidents in the house due to not ringing the bell every time. - Classical conditioning - Applies one response from one stimulus to work on a different stimulus - Pavlov’s dog: bell rings, food given, mouth waters. Bell rings again, nothing is given, mouth still waters. - Unconditioned stimulus (UCS) - Something that can cause a reaction out of someone without them having previous interactions with said thing. - A dog bites your hand, it hurts. The bite is the unconditioned stimulus for the pain. - Unconditioned response (UCR/UR) - A natural response that comes from an unconditioned stimulus - The response of feeling pain from the last example would be the unconditioned response. - Neutral stimulus (NS) - Something that doesn’t invoke a response from someone that later become contiditoned stimuli and have conditioned responses applied to them - A dog bites your hand, it hurts and you get anxious around dogs in the future. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
