Week Three Topical Reflection As I read through the text, I noticed the topic of team boundaries. Team boundaries differentiate one work group from another and affect knowledge transfer and the distribution of resources (Thompson, 2014). With my current work team, our boundaries are well defined. The biggest reason my work group is well defined is due to our union contract. The work we do is written out and well defined by our union. As a supervisor not only is it my job to supervise, but also it’s my job to make sure that employees within my department stay within the boundaries set forth by the contract. At times, this can be an overwhelming task due to the specific language for each employee. Having boundaries not only for my employees but also each individual employee is a daily focus in my department. I do not believe that my team is overbounded. My team has the ability to work with other departments when needed. The text continued into boundary spanning. Boundary spanners bridge the functional gaps, or the structural holes, that exist in organizations (Thompson, 2014). Structural holes separate non redundant social contacts in the organization (Thompson, 2014). I do a great deal of boundary spanning. As previously mentioned, I spend a lot of time making sure we are within team boundaries. With my sixteen years in my department, I do boundary spanning with lower level subordinates.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
