Assignment #7 1. The definition of sexism based on our class textbook is, “the belief that one sex is innately superior to the other”. Sexism can relate to discrimination because it can be seen as an equal treatment of a certain sex. In some cases it can be considered matriarchy or patriarchy. Matriarchy is when the women is in control of most things like the property and their everyday life. This version of sexism does exist, but it is not very common. One place that is known to follow this type of society is the Musuo, which is located in the southwestern province of China’s Yunnan. The most common type of society in the world is known as patriarchy. This is similar in the way one sex has most of the responsibilities, yet is different based on which sex is “in charge”. With patriarchy, the males dominate females. This means that men will be in charge of most of the life decisions as well as have having the relative power and privilege of women.
