Hearing: - Preferential seating: taking into consideration the child’s abilities and finding which seating arrangement is best and create their seating chart based on their needs. - Comorbidity: hearing loss might be also happening with another disability Hearing Loss: - Degree of loss - Type of loss - Age of onset Hearing Impairment “hard of hearing”: a student who has a hearing impairment: permanent or fluctuating loss; negative impact on educational performance is NOT included under the definition of deafness. Deaf: Not able to use hearing to understand/process speech even with aid or device; adverse impact on educational performance *Decibels: unit of measurement for the intensity of sound (the loudness of a sound) *Hertz: unit of measurement for sound frequency (pitch of the sound) Frequency= The # of vibrations per second of a given sound wave Audiograms: data, soft and loud, low pitch, high pitch (watch d2l video) External Ear: - Pinna (external ear)- made of cartilage -
