Gap Notes: Taxonomy (Part 2, Chapter 15, p. 323 - 328) 15.3 Taxonomy Today Explain why there is a clear biological identity only for the species taxon: Members of a species share a common gene pool from breeding with one another. Hence, forming a very real biological unit. Other taxons do not have biological identity because scientists who classify the organisms, draw the lines between one genus/ family to another. Explain the role of evolutionary theory in taxonomy: Species shown to be closely related are classified together. Other species that may look alike but possess analogous ( comparable in certain respects) structures only are classified in different groups. The theory teaches that living species have evolved from earlier species-taxonomists attempt to group organisms in ways that show their evolutionary homologous ( similar ) structures in adult organisms. What is biochemistry taxonomy? All forms of life share organic molecules that are almost identical to each other.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
