Exercise 2-8: Effect of Temperature on Microbial Growth o Be able to determine the optimum growth temperature of an organism by looking at the OD readings. o Know the definition of the following terms: Psychrophile, Mesophile, Thermophile, and Hyperthermophile. o What temperature category would human microbiota and human pathogens fall under? o What is the optimum temperature for growth of E. coli and S. marcescens that were used in the experiment? o Explain the effect of temperature (25 and 37 degree Celsius) on growth of Serratia marcescens .( lab experiment) o Be able to interpret the absorbance results and decide at which temperature or at which pH a microbe grows best when values are provided. o What instrument was used to assess the density of bacterial growth in the different microbial cultures? What is the principle of the method used? What was used as a blank in this procedure?
