The founding fathers were a group of people who were trying to settle a dispute between the states. The stakes were high and so they all knew that a compromise must be reached. At the time the states had declared their independence from England but the first attempt at unity had created a group of independent states, not a union. Because the federal government had no power of taxation, there was no power to unify the states which were doing what was best for them, not the whole. New York’s taxation of neighboring states had them to the point of attack and there was no unified currency. The constitution was an attempt to bring all parties together and create unity through compromise. State representatives all had their own prerogatives. Small states wanted equal representation, large states wanted more representation and southern states wanted their slaves to count as population to increase their representation. State representatives were brought together in an effort to fix this.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
