Genral information Name: Mary Whiton Calkins Birth place: Hartford,CT Birth date: March 30,1868 Death date: Feburary 26,1930 Work place: Professor at Wellesley college and the first women president of the APA All about me: When her family came to Massachusetts, she was raised in Buffalo, New York, until she was 17 years old. Calkins started studying at Smith College in 1882 and graduated with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in 1885. Mary Whiton Calkins was a psychologist and philosopher who introduced the field of sel f- psychology in the 19th and 20th centuries. She was the first woman to be the American Psychological Association's president. .
