Chapter 5 Counsel on menstrual period: o Length: 24-38 days. o Length of flow may be 3-7 days. o Do not want to douche prego or after sex. o Wipe front to back. o Pee after sex. Vaginas are typically odorless; they have odor with bacteria and sweating. If the tampon stays in too long it could cause TSS. o Wash hands before inserting. Dysmenorrhea occurs at beginning and ends at end. o Occurs at increase of prostaglandins. Secondary dysmenorrhea could be from endometriosis or PID. Stress, Trauma, Obesity could predispose you to PMS. o Magnesium and Calcium could help with bloating. o Can take Vitamin B6 (can decrease depression) and E (can decrease cramps and breast tenderness.) How to keep from being pregnant: o Rhythm Method. NEED TO KNOW YOUR CYCLES. If they are not regular, this will to work. o Basal body temperature method: Take temp for 3-4 months in the morning. Right before you ovulate, you will have a drop in temperature. During ovulation it will rise ½ to 1 degree. o Ovulating Method: You know your body secretions. Cervical mucus—sticky, clear= ovulation o 2 day method: Secretions for 2 days in a row= your ovulation.
