Chapter 13 Summaries Introduction There was a man named ibn Battuta, he travelled the world, he went to India, China, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Spain. On his journey he met many friendly Muslims that spoke Arabic, like him. Islam was a main factor in u iting people in Africa and South Asia, but the tropical environment and overseas trade played a big part too. Tropical Lands and People Areas such as Southeast Asia, Southern Asia, and Africa were in tropical environment, this led to them having to invent new irrigation methods. The diverse environments in different regions led to different materials coming from each area, this led to more trade because some merchandise only naturally came from specific areas. Agriculture and trade relied on mining and different materials coming from different places because the people would use these materials for tools, trade, and jewelry. Diversity and Dominance Ibn Battuta had a first hand experience on the huge social gap between the rules and their people, there was also a major social gap between master and slave, but that is to be expected.
