PERSONAL INTERVIEW-HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE 2 Option #1: Personal Interview – Hospital Employee HIM Director Interview on 9/23/19 1. What challenges to do you face with CERNER? Basic processes and workflows do not seem to be in place within Cerner, and it is also responsible for; users confusions, substandard documentation, delays in billing, and possible lost revenue. 2. What has improved since you started using the CERNER system? Users seem to be more aware of the results or outcomes of their daily work; that is, each department seems to know more about how other departments function and how their departments are “connected.” With the clinically driven system, ancillary and clinical departments are seeing how their workflows are affected by other workflows and vice versa. The clinical departments that we’ve always referred to as “revenue-producing departments” are acutely aware now that they only produce revenue if the steps taken in daily workflows are followed to the letter and in the correct order. 3. How do you measure the performance of your department using CERNER? There are quality, volume, and productivity reports available within Cerner that can be used. These include average turnaround time for the release of information requests, average time spent coding charts by encounter type by the coder, average registration time, quality/accuracy of registration data, chart completion by a physician, total collections, etc. These metrics will be used to improve workflow efficiencies, for required quality reporting, and can be used as individual employee performance improvement tools to help employees be more successful and justify increased salaries.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
