Surname 1 Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Title Antigone’s Dilemma Civil and divine laws are intertwined: peace emanates from order, and the order is maintained by both these laws. Peaceful co-existence is seen as crucial; therefore, laws are created to safeguard the rights and privileges of people. However, civil and divine laws always seem to be colliding. A typical example in the play is that of Sentry and Ismene, whose roles forced them to make decisions between their values of civil and divine laws. Therefore, the laws have a clashing connection such that observing one law may lead to undermining the other. The civil law and the divine law are equally important in the Antigone play. At the end of the play, neither the divine law nor civil law wins. In fact, both of them failed since Antigone died for observing divine law, while Creon got punished for attempting to overrule divine law.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
