It not only is important to treat the infant as a respectable individual, but also for further communication development. The infant will learn to respond to the verbal cues with its own nonverbal and verbal cues. If no communication is exchanged except nonverbal, a child may be under the assumption that nonverbal is the best method to communicate. 2. The perspective of the caregiver makes more sense, as guided by the reasons listed above. Communication is driven through both verbal and nonverbal aspects, which is what the caregiver is demonstrating. Through this, the infant is getting the most interaction. Hearing the words, learning to respond to them, and finally providing a first example of how to respect someone are all important lessons learned through practicing this principle.
