Mader Dr., Michael Windelspecht, ISBN: 9781259689796 Other required items Scientific articles and news articles will be made available during the semester. Course description This course acquaints students with basic biological, health and environmental issues of the modern world. To achieve intended awareness, students will study basic anatomy, physiology, genetics and microbiology. Special attention will be given to contemporary problems such as AIDS, genetic engineering, cancer, heart disease and pollution. The student will use basic mathematical, computer and quantitative reasoning skills to present cohesive written summations of learning. Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Know complete Human biology 2. Understand the fundamentals of human physiology 3. Understand body maintenance by learning about the different systems 4. Learn about the genes 5. Know the challenges associated with interactions of humans with the environment Methods of assessment will include: 1. Homework – End of the chapter discussion questions (Outcome 2) 2. Tests (Outcome 1-5)

Description of assignments Test 1 will cover Chapter 2, 3, 4. Test 2 will cover Chapter 5, 6, 7, 8. Test 3 will cover Chapter 9, 10, 11 Test 4 will cover Chapter 12, 13. Test 5 will cover Chapter 14, 15, 16. Test 6 will cover Chapter 17, 18. Test 7 will cover Chapter 19, 20, 21. Every other week, there is take home HW assignments that cover mostly the quantitative and qualitative aspect of the course.
