ASB222 Activity I Becoming Human (Part 2): Birth of Humanity (20 pts) 1. What was/is so important about the fossil find known as the Turkana Boy? Name at least two reasons. The fossil known as Turkana Boy was very important because it was one of the first discoveries of human ancestors, also because the skeleton was almost complete it shed light on a lot of mysteries about the early ancestors of humans. 2. How old do we now think the Turkana Boy was when he died when we examine his teeth microscopically? Was he growing up more like a modern human (i.e. Homo sapiens ) or a chimpanzee? After examining Turkana Boy’s teeth it was determined that he was approximately 8 years old, and due to his size it was determined that he was growing more like a chimpanzee with a shorter childhood than those of modern day humans. 3. How large was Turkana boy’s brain (in cubic centimeters)? How big was/is his brain compared to us?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
