NAME: ___________ASB 222Activity 3What is a City? You are the archaeologist responsible for interpreting an ancient settlement. After leading modern-day excavations and interpreting the expeditions to the site that date back to the 1950s, you are ready to publish. With you is a composite map that your team has created from a site on the Southern Anatolian Plateau that dates to 7400 BCE–6200 BCE. The entire site is 37 hectares (or 91 acres). This is roughly 0.37 km2. However, the residential area is only 26 hectares (64 acres), which is roughly 0.26 km2. Your map (on the next page) only shows you 4% of the excavated residential area of the site (1 hectare or ~2 acres). It contains 32 houses of varied size with five (5) courts that may have been used for community purposes. Up to 10 individuals (burials) have been found underneath the houses, but the minimum was four (4).Site Map
