Nina Berry Professor Thomas Honors Writing through Literature February 3, 2018 Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s “Babylon Revisited” In Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s short story “Babylon Revisited” Charlie returns to Paris to rebuild his life all while striving to gain custody of his daughter, accepting her growth with his absence, fighting off temptations, and toxic people derived from his past. Fitzgerald seemed to have presented Charlie’s mental battles within himself to be what lead him to becoming a changed man. Doing so while reflecting on his virulent past of wealth, a luxurious life style, alcohol abuse, and then the sudden passing of his wife. Shortly after it all made him aware of the life he was really living and the damage it was causing. Fitzgerald makes it evident that Charlie is going to have to prove himself to the fullest, and make it last if he has any hope of regaining custody of his daughter who is in the custody of his sister in law.
