16.1: Irrigation is a way of watering crops, but it can cause problems such as, waterlogging and salinization, and be water wasteful. We can make the practice of irrigation more sustainable by crop climate matching, using new technology, and flood irrigation. 16.2: Fertilizers are used to boost fertility and replace missing nutrients. These can be organic or inorganic. Fertilizers can be overapplied and can cause Eutrophic dead zones, as well as contaminating humans and groundwater. We can make fertilization more sustainable by monitoring the soils deficiency, using drip irrigation, using organic fertilizer, and not over using it. 16.3: Pesticides kill undesired insects, fungus, or plants.
