Renal Fascia 2. Adipose capsule - thin , outer layer of fibrous connective tissue that surrounds each kidney & attached adrenal gland to surroundings. -middle layer of adipose (fat) tissue that cushions kidneys 3 . Renal capsule - inner fibrous membrane that prevents entrance of infections 3 Major Regions of kidney Medulla Renal Cortex borders the convex side 2 Renal Medulla cortex adjacent to the renal cortex enal sinus consists of striated, cone shaped region = venal pyramids renal 3 Renal Sinus pelvis > cavity that lies adjacent to renal medulla renal pelvis vreters cone shape masses ( funnel shape ) use peristalsis to move urine out of the Kidney renal hilus : where ureter, nerves, blood & lymphatic vessels enter Kidney major function : to filter blood ( rich supply delivered by large renal arteries ) @ renal artery of each kidney = enter renal nilus & branch into arcuate arteries = into renal cortex => glomeruli of nephrons NEPHRON Distal Convoluted tubule (DCT ) nephron Glomerus Vasa recta delivers 02 & nutrients to cells of nephron loop > permeable to Hzo & salt => salt gradient - Collecting Duct Glomerular filtration Tubule H 20 4 - Nat Pelvis when blood enters glomerular capillaries , water & solute are forced in nephron loop thru active 2 Tubular Reabsorption transport (in healthy Kidneys) - almost all organic substance (protein, amino,, (loop of henle) very concentrated glucose ) are reabsorbed by the cells that line renal tube acid , ADH (anti divretic hormone ) Substance move to peritubular capillaries w produced in hypothalamus 3 Tubular Secretion Ly stored & released in pituitary gland = manages amount of water in Kidney remove substances from blood & secretes them into a filtrate ( * need water conservation : ADH stimulate opening of water channels in collecting duct H20 diffuse out = URINE CONCENTRATED no water conservation - ADH not secreted - ducts impermeable to H20 => DILUTE URINE...
