Omar Rodriguez Assignment #1 1. List four significant differences between a file-processing system and a DBMS. 1) DBMS, synchronizes both physical and logical access to data, while FPS, only synchronizes the physical address. 2) DBMS reduces data redundancy and inconsistency as a physical part of data, that is available for all the programs to use. FPS, the data created by a program might not be able to be read by another. Therefore, there is a lot of the same data created multiple times 3) DBMS is very lenient with the access to data using queries, FPS only allows to access data a certain way 4) In DBMS, data can be access by multiple users at the same time, FPS, users can access multiple data at a time. 2. List five responsibilities of the database manager. For each responsibility, explain the problems that would arise if the responsibility where not discharged 1) interaction with the file manager : with no file manager, nothing can be stored 2) integrity enforcement : Data can be unreliable, which could affect any action on any organization. 3) security enforcement : Unauthorized users could access database, or vice versa, authorized can’t access unauthorized data.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
