Introduction to differential calculus 2 Introduction This study was used by a cake tin manufacturer to make cake tins ranging from tiny tins to gigantic. In the process a rectangular based piece of tin plate was used to make cake tin where a side length of x was cut in each corner of the rectangular plate then folded to form an open top cake. To determine the volume of the required plate that was used to make the cake tin, a differential method was used to get the value of x and thereafter a mathematical calculation was used to determine the length of each of the three sides of the cake tin. A conjecture was used to determine the equation to be used in solving the volume of the cake tin. Results and interpretation PART A i.) Given the tin which is a square of length (l) and width (l) The part cut from the square is of length (x) The remaining part will be l-(x+x)=l-2x the length of the square l=5cm the remaining part will be 5-2x to prove volume V(x)=25x-20 x 2 +4 x 3 The volume of a cuboid is given by L*w*h Length(l)=5-2x Width(w)=5-2x Height(h)=x The volume thus becomes V(x)=(5-2x)(5-2x)(x) (5x-2 x 2 )(5-2x)

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
