Duy ho Professor: Arthur Morath HIST 1302 September 23, 2019 Should the United States have taken control of the Philippines? Although the United States is a leading country in the world in terms of industry, military, and culture starting from the 18th century to the present day, the United States has never interfered or used its power with any other country. But the US-Spain and the Philippines War (1898 to 1902) marked an important turning point in American interventions abroad. When the United States decided to pursue war with Spain in Cuba and then intervened to liberate and occupy the Philippines from Spain, the United States officially expanded its reach and influence globally. In the next two decades, the United States will continue to use its power to influence the politics of countries around the world, especially in Latin America. In the middle of the 19th century, the United States focused its attention on neighboring Cuba, which was colonized by the Spaniards. The Cubans have repeatedly tried to fight for independence but failed. The rebellion from early 1895 to 1898 caused many deaths. To end the rebellion, General Valeriano Weyler y Nicolau of Spain launched a reorganization policy, forcing Cubans living in certain cities to relocate from the military area of the camp. for about two years. Before that scene, Cubans in the United States and allies have asked the US government to intervene in Cuba, but the government has voiced its desire to avoid conflict with the Spanish war.
