Psychological Science, 27(2), 289-294. doi:10.1177/0956797615620784In the article “Wearing a Bicycle Helmet Can Increase Risk Taking and Sensation Seeking in Adults,” the authors’ research question is studying whether wearing a helmet or baseball cap will have an effect on their level of risk taking. In this case, the safety equipment was the helmet and the alternative was the baseball cap. What led to this research question was the risk-compensation phenomenon, which is people typically have an increased effect on their risk-taking levels when they are using safety equipment. There was also previous research done that led to this study being, driving speeds and the use of seat-belts or people riding bikes without their helmets down a steep hill.The variables of interest were risk-taking, which was measured in two different
