Course Pre-requisites: SAT MATH score of 490 or SAT Subject MATH Level II score of 470 or ACT MATH score of 19 or CHEM 103 with a grade of C or better. Co-requisites: CHEM 114 Course Description: CHEM 104 Basic General, Organic and Biological Chemistry This course is an introduction to fundamental techniques and concepts in chemistry, including writing and interpretation of symbols, formulas, equations, atomic structure, composition and reactions of inorganic compounds. Student Learning Objectives/Outcomes 1.Objective: Classifyy basic chemical processes, phenomena, and principles. Outcome: Students will be able to give examples of basic chemical processes, phenomena, and principles on assessments. 2.Objective: Use basic chemistry principles and concepts to analyze and interpret real-world phenomena, issues, and problems – General Education for Scientific Reasoning Course Outcome Students will demonstrate the ability to use chemical principles and conceppts to analyze and interpret real-world phenomena, issues, and problems 3. Objective: Effectively employ critical thinking skills in written communication. Outcome: Students will demonstrate the ability to employ critical thinking skills in written responses case study analysis and short answer essays on quizzes 4. Objective: Effectively relate ideas and concepts, as well as modes of inquiry, across disciplines. Outcome: Students will demonstrate the ability to relate ideas and concepts from biology, mathematics, and chemistry as they apply to health and environmental matters. 5. Objective: Use analytical thinking skills to evaluate information critically. Outcome: Students will demonstrate the ability to use analytical thinking skills to evaluate information on examinations.
