MORAL DILEMMAS AND ETHICAL DECISIONS2Moral Dilemmas and Ethical DecisionsGood afternoon. Recently, a fellow Emergency Department, at another local hospital, encountered a problem. In this scenario, two individuals were brought in via EMS; both victims of the same industrial accident. Today we are going to discuss how these two individuals were not treated equally, and uniformly, in the Emergency Department. We are also going to discuss evidence-based strategies that should be applied for managing the care of uninsured and indigent people in our ED.In this situation, I’m not entirely sure what all transpired to cause the massive involvement of the media. In this ED, should an event like this occur, all patients should be triaged appropriately, based on level of acuity via currently set policies and protocols. Let us all work together to build a better ED for the population we serve.
